Libel and Slander in the Internet, many times
The price of Success and FameA few weeks ago I
got a call from a celebrity management agent. They were very concerned
about a group of people attacking mercilessly, one of its clients work.
This cyber bullies were posting negative comments on self created blogs;
contacting celerity's fans trying to convince them and to revert their
opinions on this person's successful work; buying her book so they would
be able to post bad-negative reviews in Amazon, among other "nice" cyber
activities.
I checked this writer's reputation in Google, and I could find not
even a trace of any "slip' on this person's career, as writer, song
writer, and actress.
What caused all that cyber commotion? Very simple; I could just say
envy, or jealousy. I prefer to conclude that the attackers just were
very different on their opinions about this writer's ideas. This person
expressed his/her ideas, in a very unique, original and creative way,
and put it on a written form of a book. Some people, the cyber bullies,
could not understand what he/she wanted to express. The artist is
paying the price of his/her own creativity, that make him/her
successful, and a little bit famous. Does it make sense?
All through history there were famous people. Most of them because of
their power, wealth, or service to human kind, their country, or some
cause. Many of them "good" people, and some of them "bad" people.
Depends on the point of view they were looked at. We had Napoleon
Bonaparte, a hero for French man, an evil for the rest of the European
world. Mahatma Gandhi, a good man for most of the world, but no so good
for a minority. Countless examples.
Now days we have "famous" people in the Internet, specially in
Google. Any body could be in the first page of GOOGLE SEARCH almost over
night, and be "famous". Any body can go to ripoffreport.com and post a
horrible report on her/his doctor, just because of anger or frustration;
or about the PTA chair person, because somebody doesn't like the way
she/he is doing things, etc.
We could dismiss all that Google information, but people like drama.
People love to see other people's character being exposed and defamed if
it's possible. Human nature. This is why Google is so powerful, even
when the information written in blogs and certain websites is not very
accurate, or true.
If this is your case, you, a friend, or a co-worker found some not
nice information about you in the first page of Google, it might be
because some body does not agree with you on you work as a professional,
artist, etc.; or some one is jealous, envy your work, or just upset at
her/him self because she/he did not accomplished what you did. You are
just paying the price of success and fame, the price of
your own well used skills, knowledge, capacity, etc.
